Thank God For That

Thank God For That

When something does not happen that was an impending disaster, we are prone to say, “Thank God for that”, or some of the older folks may say, “Thank the Lord”.

Our feeling of gratitude is overwhelming that the disaster or unpleasant event did not befall us. We are most grateful to God when some disaster type of event is avoided or perhaps when some windfall or good fortune comes our way. Some folks say “Thank you, Jesus”, without giving much thought to what that should really mean.

It is right that we should express our gratitude to God when significant events turn in our favor. The Bible has a lot to say about being thankful to God. James 1: 16-17 says “Do not be deceived my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of light with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” Verse 18 continues, “Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creation.” This reminds us that we are God’s creation, created in his image, as Genesis 1:27 tells us.

God is the giver of life, the Creator. Let us offer up prayers of thanksgiving for all the good and perfect gifts that we enjoy in our life every day.
