The Bible has some interesting things to say about the use of our tongue.
In the book of James, chapter 3 verses 5 through 13, we are warned of what great harm the tongue can do if we are not diligent to control our speech. It is powerful advice to ask God’s help in taming our tongue.
In Matthew 12:35-37, Jesus addresses this when He says, “A good man out of the treasures of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasures brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement”. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemmed.”
In Psalms 19:14 David prays, “ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.”
A worthy goal for us today.
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Ps. 141:3).
