Pigs In The Water

Pigs In The Water

There is an old country saying that goes like this: “You can’t get the water to clear up until you get the pigs out of the creek!”

Life in our society is fast-paced and sometimes very confusing. We are bombarded with information that comes from many directions and we feel responsible to make much of it a part of our life. In this process, some garbage accumulates in our minds and in our hearts. This can cause us to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. We have newer electronic devices all the time that causes us to have a wealth of information at our fingertips in an instant. In a moment of reflection, we see that all these things are not making ours lives better. Woe is us!

The old comic strip character, Pogo the possum says, “We has met the enemy and it is us”.  The Bible gives us some thoughts to help direct our lives when it says in James 3:13-18, “Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exists, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

I think Pogo knew about the “Pigs in the creek” that can cause our lives to be clouded up, and so does God who wants us to live a pure, gentle, and simple life. He talks about that a lot in the Bible.
