One Day at a Time

One Day at a Time

Many times folks will say, when they are bogged down in life’s problems, “I just have to take it one day at a time”. It helps us concentrate on today’s problems. But we sometimes dwell on the mistakes of the past; regrets about what we said or did that caused us a problem, or dread about tomorrow’s tasks, or even anticipation about our plans for tomorrow so that we lose track of our concentration on living today. Jesus tells us in Mt  6:34, “ do not be anxious about tomorrow”.

The Psalmist reminds in 118:24 that “this is the day that the Lord made, let us be glad and rejoice in it”. James 4:13 warns us of excessive anxiety about our plans for tomorrow.

The Apostle Paul sums it up in Philippians 3:13-14 when he says, “but one thing I do; forgetting about what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.

Let us live today with that ultimate goal in our hearts.
